Seoul shares fell on Tuesday as tech exporters like Hynix and LG Elec dipped on worries about worsening export conditions after the news of massive job cuts by a major U.S. bank.

But some local banks outperformed the market on hopes of capital increases.

Hynix Semiconductor lost 11.17 percent, and LG Elec fell 5.26 percent. But Hana Financial Group climbed 5.45 percent and Woori Finance Holdings closed flat. The banking subindex ended down 3.59 percent.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index ended down 3.91 percent at 1,036.16 points, just 16 percent off the 2008 low of 892.16 hit on October 27.
