Japanese Economics Minister Kaoru Yosano said on Friday the government would try to map out a package of steps next week to support the economy.

But he added that the government had not yet decided whether to compile an extra budget to carry out the measures.

“I think we have a line-up of measures ready,” Yosano told a news conference after a cabinet meeting. “As to how much money we will spend or what economic and social impacts would be brought about, that will come in accordance with policy steps,” he added.

Tokyo plans to compile an economic package to help businesses and individuals cope with rising energy and food prices amid heightening fears of a recession in the world’s second-biggest economy.
