Thailand’s headline inflation at 9.2 percent in July is not too high, Bank of Thailand chief economist Amara Sripaya said on Friday.

“The figure is not beyond expectations. People had already expected a high number,” she told reporters shortly after the Commerce Ministry released data showing inflation at a new decade high.

Asked if the central bank needed further policy tightening, Amara said it was up to the Monetary Policy Committee to decide.
