Spanish unemployment rose to 10.4 percent in the second quarter from 9.6 percent in the first, hitting its highest level in three years as the economy slows, official data showed on Thursday.

Unemployment increased by 207,400 people in the second quarter and took the number of Spanish jobless to 2.38 million, the national statistics institute said.

Unemployment had been expected to rise to 10 percent, according to a Reuters poll of six analysts.
