A German government spokesman said Monday that the finance ministry doesn’t agree with calls from French President Nicolas Sarkozy to publicize minutes from European Central Bank meetings.

“No,” was the short answer given by the spokesman when a reporter asked if the ministry shared Sarkozy’s stance.

Sarkozy said the ECB should become more politically accountable, the Financial Times said on its web site Sunday. One step toward that, Sarkozy said, would be to regularly publish the minutes of the ECB’s governing council meetings, the FT reported.
