Seasonally-adjusted French industrial output for May was down 2.6 percent following a 1.5 percent rise in April, according to data from the Insee statistics office.

The consensus estimate of economists polled by Thomson Financial News was established at a 0.7 percent month-on-month fall.

Insee said the April figure was revised from a provisional 1.4 percent rise.

Manufacturing output, which excludes food and energy, was down 2.5 percent in May compared with a 1.7 percent rise the month before.

Economists had forecast a 0.6 percent fall for this component.
